The Intellectual Grind (re)defined. Eating, sleeping, and breathing critical theory, new media art, and computational aesthetics is like falling in love. I can’t help but think of this thing I love so damn much. When the research doesn’t yield or present results the way I envision, I start second guessing myself and wonder what the hell is wrong with me versus just being with it. My partner would be proud that I’m actually starting to relax - intellectually and emotionally. #lifelessons #intellectualshit #gradschool #research #writing #reading (at My Brain)

Far from over. As the first year comes to a close, my summer will be filled with reading, research, and writing. Committing two nights a week for 6 weeks to get as much research done before Thesis year starts. I’m actually really excited. #gradschool #hardwork #research #writing (at My Brain)

I’m going through an old training workbook as I reorganize my desk at work. It’s been about three years since I looked at this thing. I’m actually meeting my “community/social” life goals. #writing #motivation #life #dreambig (at My Cube)

Grindin’ #cca #visualculture #writing ~ After seeing and hearing the research of Visual and Critical Studies scholars today, I’m reminded of why we work (wurq) [wurk] {werq} so damn hard to unravel the hidden messages of popular culture, examine the visual landscape, and make visible the invisible. All the sleepless nights and deciphering chicken scratches from our notebooks is so worth it. (at My Tired Brain and Body)

Oh, how I love me some Walter Benjamin. This is why I write (incessantly, feverishly) #criticaltheory #writing #writingpractice (at My Brain)

This weekend, I started reading my journals again. I thank @vmkauffman for re-igniting this archeology of the self endeavor. Vanessa is one of my brilliant classmates in grad school (phenomenal artist and incredible writer). One day, she mentioned my prolific note taking in class. It’s true. I profusely scrawl my at through lectures. If you’re wondering, I read what I write in my notebooks. It jogs the memory, which is something people don’t really do, you know? Jog their memories, that is. We become so reliant on the way we function with technology that we forget that our hands and minds have the skills to write, draw, paint, and make things. In any case, I re-read some of my entries from this 2010 journal…I have notes about my mother’s life in these pages. I’m going to write her story…it’s a great one. Already started but looking at these notes, I’m reminded of how important it is to take the nascent idea and start making strides to document and put her life down on paper. #observations #writingpractice #journaling #writing (at My Heart and Mind)
